27 September 1999: historic recognition<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On 27 September 1999, L'\u00c9tivaz became the first food cheese in Switzerland to be awarded the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).<\/span><\/p>

This recognition is based in particular on the exceptional botanical wealth of the mountain pastures, but also on the close link between nature, alpine traditions and the know-how of the mountain pasture producers.<\/p>

The high-altitude pastures are home to over 237 recorded botanical species, providing a natural and varied diet for the cows during the summer months. This floral diversity is reflected in the cheese: up to 56 different aromas can be identified in L'\u00c9tivaz PDO.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
